Democratic Left '18 - Writing Workshop Sarajevo
A group of ten activists from all over southeast Europe, along with our partners from European Alternatives came together and extracted political positions from analyses developed in previous Activist Fora. Discussions ensued on certain particularities the platform should convey and whether it should remain divided in the Democracy, Economy, Social State and Resources or whether it should be restructured in order to communicate the complexities and issues of local contexts.
With this exercise an crucial step in the Activist Fora series has been taken as it paved the way to materialize the positions and discussions from previous for a into a consolidated platform we labelled the Democratic Left in Southeast Europe. As was initially planned for the activist fora, the workshop started with the question how do we translate the energy from the streets of southeast Europe into coherent, plausible and actionable policy proposals or demands which will contribute towards building a just and fair society.
Topics covered during the workshop included housing rights, democratization movements, economic alternatives, the reclaiming of public spaces and many more, which are reflected in some of the positions, asking for housing as collective responsibility, urban development for citizens and not profit, support for educational workers, elimination of the double burden on motherhood leave, no linguistic nationalism and many more.
A first draft of the platform should be presented at the end of November 2017 in Sarajevo.
