Silver Frame Film Festival in Sarajevo

Following the cooperation with the II Silver Frame Film Festival held in July 2025 in Srebrenica, FES is proud to support bringing the selection of shorts focused on preservation of the environment, education, and awareness to the 31st Sarajevo Film Festival.

The Silver Frame Film Residency will be screening five short movies at the 31st Sarajevo Film Festival on August 22nd 2025 from 14:00 at the Sarajevo Youth Theater. The movies that will be screened are:

  1. Znači nema filma – Milica Radovanović, mentor Davor Marinković (9’)
  2. Otpad i šutnja – Esmin Sabljić, mentor Almir Berkovac (7’)
  3. Srebro koje teče – Uma Nea Zaimović, mentorica Tamara Denić (8’)
  4. Odbačena – Zafar Berkovac, mentorica Aleksandra Lazarovski (3’)
  5. Tamo gdje srce pomaže – Milica Ostojić, mentor Dragan Stanimirović (10’)

What makes these shorts special is that they were created in just a few days through collaboration between young filmmakers from the region and professional mentors, showcasing emerging voices and innovative storytelling. Filmed between the towns of Srebrenica and Bratunac, the projects focus on nature, community, mutual understanding, and life in small towns.

The Silver Frame Film Residency combines film education, ecological awareness, and local engagement through art, offering a unique creative experience that nurtures new talent and fosters cross-border collaboration.

All five films were screenerd during the closing night of the II Silver Frame Film Festival 2025, as part of the official festival ceremony.

Three films received awards:

  • Otpad i šutnja – Esmin Sabljić (Best Short Film)
  • Tamo gdje srce pomaže – Milica Ostojić (Special Mention)
  • Odbačena – Zafar Berkovac (Special Mention)

Jury Motivations

Best Short Film – “Otpad i šutnja” (Waste and Silence)

A film that, in a subtle yet highly direct way, addresses silence—about the problems we consciously turn away from and the questions that naturally arise for viewers: where does individual responsibility begin, and where does it end?
This is a powerful and comprehensive film that carefully highlights the degradation of rivers and nature, as well as the collective negligence that, in silence, takes its toll.

Special Mention – “Tamo gdje srce pomaže” (Where the Heart Helps)

An honest and inspiring story about everyday heroes who act from the heart.
The film radiates community warmth and the power of kindness, showing how volunteer work can leave a lasting impact. Through the story of volunteers from different parts of the world who come together to work and build in Srebrenica, it reminds us of the importance of human connections—those that transcend borders, languages, and origins.

Special Mention – “Odbačena” (Thrown Away)

A strong visual metaphor for our relationship with nature—and ultimately, with one another.
The film tells an intimate story of waste, both physical and emotional, skillfully building tension and continuously holding the audience’s attention in anticipation of what is to come. Very effective for its runtime and clearly directed toward its intended audience.
