Strengthening Progressive Political Communication 25.04.2026 In April 2026, Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung’s Dialogue Southeast Europe office organized the second module of its communication skills training for progressive political actors from across Bosnia and Herzegovina. Held on Bjelašnica, the training built on the successful December 2025 session dedicated to countering right-wing narratives and continued the broader effort to strengthen democratic and values-based political communication in the region. Bringing together participants engaged in political and public life at the local and national levels, the three-day training focused on developing practical communication skills needed to navigate today’s increasingly polarized and fast-paced public sphere. Through a combination of theoretical inputs, practical exercises, and simulations, participants explored how progressive political actors can communicate more clearly, authentically, and strategically while remaining grounded in empathy and democratic values. The program addressed a wide range of topics related to public appearances and political communication, including the psychology of first impressions, voice and stage presence, nonverbal communication, message development, and public speaking techniques. Participants also took part in simulations of television appearances, public speeches, and crisis communication scenarios, designed to help strengthen confidence and adaptability in different media and public settings. In addition to practical communication exercises, the training created space for participants to exchange experiences from their local communities and reflect on current political discourse in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Discussions focused on the challenges progressive actors face in communicating policy positions and engaging citizens in an environment shaped by distrust, polarization, and rapidly changing media dynamics. The final part of the training introduced participants to the fundamentals of digital political communication, including approaches to social media engagement, content creation, and strategic online communication. By combining political reflection with practical capacity-building, the training aimed to contribute to stronger, more effective, and more empathetic democratic communication practices. The session also reaffirmed the importance of creating spaces where progressive political actors can learn from one another, exchange experiences, and collectively strengthen democratic dialogue in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
