Week of Social Democracy 2015 Summer School

The tenth regional summer school in social-democratic values and political skills “Week of Social Democracy 2015” (NSD) took place in Avala near Belgrade from June 28th to July 5th. The NSD camp gathered 100 participants from the region of the Western Balkans. Since its inception in 2006, the NSD summer school has had over a thousand participants.

It is intended to foster political, trade-union and NGO activists between the ages of 18 and 25, with the goal of empowering youth in political activism through capacity building and networking with their peers from the region.

The topics covered at the summer school included:

-          Social democracy and values, solidarity, integration, regional cooperation, transition, governance, media freedom, hate speech and education.

-          Human and minority rights, economic measures of the welfare state, sustainable development policies, electoral systems and the development of political parties, the roles of civil society organizations in policy development and the relationship between church and state.

-          Communication skills and public relations, teamwork, online activism and public advocacy campaigns, civic activism, financing regional projects, conflict solution, non-violent communication and leadership skills.
