International Parliamentarian Conference Cavtat

From October 28th to 29th, Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung regional offices Dialogue Southeast Europe and the office for Croatia and Slovenia hosted the International Parliamentarian Conference in Cavtat. In light of pivotal events for foreign policy worldwide, particularly in Europe, this year's Conference focused on "Democratic Resilience from a Social-Democratic Perspective. "

As traditional for this Parlialemtarian Conference, Cavtat was the gathering place for progressive members of parliament from the European Union, EU Member States, and Southeastern Europe, as well as FES representatives and young, progressive actors, including Young European Socialists and youth wings of social democratic parties. The two days of fruitful networking and exchange included discussions in different formats on the state of democracy in Europe today, strengthening political participation and increasing the resilience of modern societies in view of social democrats. All discussions that were held during the Conference oblige to Chatham House Rules.

In addition to looking at the state of our societies today, this engaged group of participants also assessed the social-democratic positions and programs in light of these important events. They debated ways in which social democracy can not only continue giving people-focused and value-based solutions to current and persistent challenges but the ways in which this work and effort can be brought closer to the people.

Cavtat Conference continues to be the basis of support for the exchange and connecting social-democratic politicians across the continent and in the Southeastern European region, which is why this year's edition measured a significantly high attendance from all over Europe. FES remains committed to hosting the Conference to nurture the solidarity- and democracy-based political work of parliamentarians and other engaged actors.
